A Surprised Unearthing

On a cold, dark, rainy Saturday a packaged arrived at my door. It was labeled “A Grave Correspondence”.

How curious and strange, my inquisitive self pondered.

Inside a box, nestled in tendrils of spring green. A tiny spoon bound by ribbon with a message:

Here lies a Wicked Missive. Exhume With Care!

Inside a box of rich, black earth and tiny gold flakes. A Grave and Curious Correspondence indeed!

With caution, I use my dainty gold spoon to slowly push aside the earth. But, what’s that? A sound! A solid something!

A grave something!

Pulled from the dust, an intricate, tiny coffin, exquisitely detailed with vintage imagery and dancing skeletons. Only a special something could be housed within!

Bewitching Peddlers of Halloween! A burned scroll bound in burlap, sealed with wax!

This spider seal makes me swoon! How special! And inspiring!

Unrolled, an invitation! The highest compliment! A moment to be inspired and a memory to be relived!

Let the creating begin!

Please join in on the fun and be moved by all things Halloween, September 29th, 2018 at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds in Marshall, Michigan. More information can be found here.

The Kentucky Crafted Market 2018

It’s almost time for the show that kicks my season off–the Kentucky Crafted Market. In less than two weeks, I’ll be packing my little creatures up and trying to wrangle them to the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky for this year’s show. Yep, Louisville, Kentucky! Many of you many remember that in the five previous years, Kentucky Crafted: The Market has been held at Heritage Hall in Lexington. Before that, the Kentucky Crafted Market had a long history in Louisville and so this year the show will return to its home.

There are a few more changes taking place, as well. Traditionally, Friday has been open to wholesale purchasers only. This year, on Friday, the public will be admitted from 5-8 p.m. at a discounted price if you’d like to scout vendors or make sure you get first dibs on artwork!

Otherwise the show is open from 10-7 on Satuday and 10-5 on Sunday.

The banner below will take you to the The Kentucky Crafted Market website for additional info, driving directions and ticket purchases if you’d like to purchase tickets early.

Now, back to the work table for me!

A Bewitching Preview!

The artists who will be participating in the Bewitching Peddlers of Halloween art show in Chelsea, Michigan on September 30th have been hard at work in their studios! You might even see a familiar face in this batch! Check back often or follow me on facebook to see previews of some of the work that will be available in Michigan on September 30th.

It’s Bewitching!

There has been an art show on my bucket list for a few years. Each Halloween season, as I see photos from this imaginative event, I feel like my eyes fill with orange hearts and glaze over with cobwebs. Never before have I viewed such an imaginative, creative, fun, FESTIVE Halloween atmosphere. That show was Ghoultide Gathering, dreamed up and produced by an immensely talented, and one of my favorite artists, Scott Smith and Bill Gilmore. Last year, after 10 years of producing Ghoultide, Scott and Bill decided to hand over the reigns to another immensely talented set of artists, Jennie and Joseph Takens. And, although the name of this show has changed, the artists, spirit, atmosphere and festivity of past Ghoultide Gatherings is still intact.

Last week, the most magical invitation arrived in the mail. And it’s almost as if a bit of Halloween spirit wafted out of the envelope along with it.

BewitchingPeddlersInvite

I am so thrilled and honored to have been invited to the first ever Bewitching Peddlers of Halloween. This show is filled with some of my favorite artists producing some of the most incredible pieces of artwork I’ve ever seen based upon my favorite holiday. How could I not be over-the-moon? And wickedly inspired?!

Make plans to be part of the Magic on September 30th in Chelsea, Michigan! (Click the banner below for more information.)

2017KyCrBanner

Kentucky Crafted: The Market is the Kentucky Arts Council’s signature event produced each year in the spring featuring the highest quality art, craft, literature, music, film and food found in the state. More than 200 Kentucky Crafted and select out-of-state artists, musicians and artisanal food producers make their finest work available to wholesale buyers and the general public during the three-day event.

Wholesale buyers have the rare opportunity at The Market to place orders directly with producers of Kentucky traditional and contemporary fine art and craft, as well as publishers of Kentucky related books and specialty food products.

Doors are opened to the general public during the weekend to purchase work in the retail marketplace. Shoppers can find fine art and craft from Kentucky’s most extraordinary artists, participate in hands-on activities, or take a break at the Kentucky Stage music festival featuring some of the state’s best-loved musicians and performers.

Kentucky is one of a few states in the nation to sponsor a show of this kind for its art and craft businesses. Its 34-year tradition of excellence has not gone unnoticed. Kentucky Crafted: The Market was named the No. 1 Fair & Festival in the country four times by readers of AmericanStyle Magazine. The Southeast Tourism Society has named it a Top 20 Event for 15 years.

Coming Up! Wicked Wonders Halloween Art Market

wwmarket

This year, Lexington Arts & Recreation has decided to make a whole day out of the Thriller Re-enactment and Halloween Parade that occurs every year in downtown Lexington. This amazing event will be made even spookier by the addition of the Wicked Wonders Halloween Art Market which will be located at the 5/3 Pavilion in Cheapside Park on Main Street in Lexington. ( 251 West Main Street, Lexington, Ky). I look forward to displaying my own Wicked Wonders and participating in what may become an annual Halloween art show! And Zombies, I’m looking forward to all the Zombies!!! Click the ad above for more information about the day’s festivities.

Bluegrass & Backroads

I really like the title of this show. One of my favorite things about country living is traveling the backroads on a pretty day. Kentucky really is a beautiful state, and the rolling fields, deep caverns, creeks, lakes and rock formations can be breathtaking. I think the title of this show is an appropriate description of Kentucky.

Tucked along those backroads and rolling fields, sprinkled here and there, are unique and interesting people. Many folks think that isolation helps spur creativity in our people. To some degree this is true, I think. Growing up, all of my family members had projects we were constantly working on…piddling as we called it. I have piddled my whole life. In fact, I really never felt comfortable calling myself an artist until I was in my 20’s. So removed from the “art world” was I, that I simply said I piddled with making things.

I’m glad my folks encouraged all that piddling.

The episode that I filmed back in May (you can read more about that experience here) is coming up this next weekend on KET and RFD-TV. Although hesitant to participate at first because of my own shyness and perhaps, stage fright, I’m so glad Bob and Matt encouraged me to share my artwork on their program. It really was such a great experience and has helped me overcome some of that stage fright to a degree.

I encourage you to watch Bluegrass & Backroads. There are some interesting things happening in Kentucky, at the hands of interesting makers and these two fellows work very hard to scout the best and most interesting makers and bring their stories to you.

You can visit this link for a list of air dates on KET, (Kentucky Educational Television). I am episode #1305, just scroll down and look for Rebecca Miller Campbell or see dates below.
