Pumpkins, Witches, Butterflies, Pugs and Mushrooms…New Work on Etsy

I just listed a few of my brand spanking new pieces in my Etsy shop. These guys are fresh off the work table and would be so happy with a new home for fall.

This little lady’s name might seem a little familiar. When I began sculpting her, I had a very different vision in mind. As I kept sculpting, I could “see” a very different doll taking shape. I decided to follow that path and file the other idea away for another sculpting session. The more I sculpted this doll, making decisions about clothing and her hat, I realized that, in a way, I was sculpting a self portrait–the person I would be if I were a woodland fairy. Not that she looks like me…but she feels like me.

And so, I named this doll “Becca”.

Berea Craft Festival ’14 Preview 2

Berea Craft Festival ’14 Preview

It’s almost here! In less than two weeks, I’ll be packing up my studio and heading to the Berea Craft Festival in Berea, Ky. I love this event. I often boast about the atmosphere, the woods, the art, the renaissance dancers, the regional music, the flavors. But I swear I don’t think it’s possible to convey how cool the Berea Craft Festival is with just words and photos. It’s an experience. It has flavor. A flavor all its own.

This last week before the Berea Craft Festival, finds me pushing myself to complete new pieces. I always want to have new work to show those who visit my booth each year….new ornaments, new little critters. And new signed and numbered pieces too. Here’s just a sampling of some of the new work that is finished and photographed and packed away, waiting to travel to Indian Fort Theater soon. My worktable is full of items waiting for their last touches as well.

Enjoy! And if you’re looking for a great weekend July 11, 12 and 13, travel to Berea. You can visit the Craft Festival, tour the local shops in Berea, KY, including the Old Town artist community and you can visit the Kentucky Artisan Center, home to some of the very best art and crafts Kentucky has to offer. A whole new batch of woodland inspired critters have packed their bags and traveled from my work shop all the way to the Appalachian Fireside Gallery in Berea, Kentucky. (Ok…so they had a liitttttllleee help from Fed Ex!)
