Pumpkins, Witches, Butterflies, Pugs and Mushrooms…New Work on Etsy

I just listed a few of my brand spanking new pieces in my Etsy shop. These guys are fresh off the work table and would be so happy with a new home for fall.

Here they are: (Click the first photo below to be taken to the corresponding listing in my Etsy shop. And if you don’t shop on Etsy and don’t wish to open an account, but would like one of these dolls, just contact me. )

“Becca”

This little lady’s name might seem a little familiar. When I began sculpting her, I had a very different vision in mind. As I kept sculpting, I could “see” a very different doll taking shape. I decided to follow that path and file the other idea away for another sculpting session. The more I sculpted this doll, making decisions about clothing and her hat, I realized that, in a way, I was sculpting a self portrait–the person I would be if I were a woodland fairy. Not that she looks like me…but she feels like me.

And so, I named this doll “Becca”.

Shelby – A Woodland Sprite

I’m so excited to introduce this little lady to you. Her name is Shelby. She is an OOAK (original, one of a kind) woodland sprite & the first of many pieces which I consider to be a type of sculpted vignette.

Shelby is my first head to toe sculpt & I have to tell you I’ve had so much fun dreaming her up & watching her come to life. Each layer of clay revealed a new layer of personality & each layer of paint really brought her to life! Needless to say, this little lady has already inspired a couple of other ‘Sculpted Vignettes’ & I already have many sketches littering my workbook of new dolls that *need* to be completed.

Shelby is sculpted from paper clay over various pieces of styrofoam & wooden armature (without the use of any molds) & is secured and sculpted onto a wooden base. She stands 11″ tall & is 7″ wide at the base. She’s been hand-painted in many layers & has a beautiful, aged patina reminiscent of vintage toys. She’s sealed, signed & dated & comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Shelby is available for purchase on the PFATT Marketplace June update. You can click here to purchase! (PFATT Marketplace updates on the 10th of each month at 1 PM EST.) Be sure to check out the awesome works offered by fellow PFATT Marketplace members.

Creating New People.

I’ve spent this week working on & designing new dollies. I love this part of the process, when things are still fresh and new and there are so many possibilities. It’s exciting to see what was once a blank sheet of paper become a template, with just a hint of the creature that is waiting to be born. It’s exciting to see a square lump of clay take form, become plump cheeks or a tiny lip. One of my favorite details on clay dolls are earrings. It’s such a small thing but I think it adds such charm to the overall doll. Perhaps that’s what’s exciting! Although in this stage, everything looks so bland, I know what these little pieces can & will become. I know what that tiny dollop of clay on the earlobe will look like in the end. And I usually can’t wait to see it finished!

Here are some of my new woodland inspired creatures in the making.
