Berea Craft Festival ’14 Preview

It’s almost here! In less than two weeks, I’ll be packing up my studio and heading to the Berea Craft Festival in Berea, Ky. I love this event. I often boast about the atmosphere, the woods, the art, the renaissance dancers, the regional music, the flavors. But I swear I don’t think it’s possible to convey how cool the Berea Craft Festival is with just words and photos. It’s an experience. It has flavor. A flavor all its own.

This last week before the Berea Craft Festival, finds me pushing myself to complete new pieces. I always want to have new work to show those who visit my booth each year….new ornaments, new little critters. And new signed and numbered pieces too. Here’s just a sampling of some of the new work that is finished and photographed and packed away, waiting to travel to Indian Fort Theater soon. My worktable is full of items waiting for their last touches as well.

Enjoy! And if you’re looking for a great weekend July 11, 12 and 13, travel to Berea. You can visit the Craft Festival, tour the local shops in Berea, KY, including the Old Town artist community and you can visit the Kentucky Artisan Center, home to some of the very best art and crafts Kentucky has to offer. You don’t have to wander far in Berea to find a whole bunch of eye candy! Click here for more information or driving directions.

See you in Berea!

A Primitive Pink Hollyhock

HollyHeadToToe

An old-fashioned flower garden just isn’t complete without beautiful, towering hollyhocks. This little girl will allow you to have a little old fashioned garden indoors, all year long!

Meet Holly. Holly is a little over 15 inches from head to toe. She is made in the style of a stump doll & stands on her own. Holly has been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. Her base is rag-stuffed & bean filled allowing her balance nicely. Holly has been hand-painted & sanded a couple of times, giving her such a lovely, aged patina. She’s been sealed so that she may be lightly dusted after display.

HollyFace HollyProfile HollyHand

Holly’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand, giving her a cute little pout. Her leafy hands have been needle-sculpted as well.

HollyBodice HollyFabric HollyBack

Holly’s blouse is made of white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline and back. It is finished off with a glass buttons at the neckline. Holly’s skirt consists of two 100% cotton prints. The hem features delicate hand-stitches.

HollyPetals

Each of Holly’s petals were sewn separately & attached securely by hand with tiny stitches. Because each petal was sewn & turned, the edges are finished.

Holly is available on eBay. She will end May 31st at 9:15 PM EST. (Her reserve price is $100.00.) Click here to view or bid on this little girl.
