Prim & Proper & in Print

Thank you Prims for including my dolls in the Winter 2013 edition. This magazine (and issue, in particular) is available for purchase here.

Ava, whose heart flutters for the winged creatures.

AvaTorso This sweet little gal is Ava. She is my original design and is guaranteed one of a kind art! I’ve used no patterns to create her, her bird or her clothing. Ava is 31″ tall. Her sweet feathered friend is 4″ tall & 8″ wide from beak to tail. They have been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. Ava’s lower torso has been rag-stuffed & bean filled in order to weight her little bottom. I’ve hand-painted & sanded Ava & her blue bird top to bottom many, many times. They’ve been treated to a series of paint washes which make them look oh so vintage. Ava’s arms are lightly wired allowing her to be gently posed.

Ava’s facial features have been needle-sculpted and hand-painted. Her bottom lip ‘pouts’ while her top lip is simply painted. She has big brown eyes, peachy lips & rosy cheeks. Her fingers have been needle-sculpted (by hand). Ava & her bird have been painted with premium acrylic paints and shaded & highlighted heavily with oil pastels. They have been sealed top to bottom with glossy acrylic sealer so that you may dust them lightly after display & keep them for a lifetime.

AvaHand AvaShoes AvaFaceProfile

Ava sports light blue painted gloves & brown boots with pretty light blue socks. Her shoes have been painted & heavily detailed, right down to the laces!

Ava’s apron skirt has been constructed of taupe osnaburg. It has such a lovely texture! Her blouse has been made out of white muslin & features hand-gathered sleeves & a pretty collar. Ava’s skirt & blouse feature tons of hand-stitching! All visible hems have been hand-stitched (skirt, sleeves & collar). Her clothing has been treated to a coffee and lavender bud bath for a semi-grubby, aged appearance. All pieces were then hand-washed & pressed with linen water.

AvaBirdNest AvaEggs AvaClose

Ava’s sweet little bluebird has been modeled after the Eastern Bluebird. She sits atop an angelvine nest with 7 light blue paperclay eggs that I hand-sculpted & painted. Nestled among the blue eggs is one truly beautiful speckled off white egg. Sometimes female birds will lay an egg in a nest that is not theirs. It is called egg dumping. I guess that’s where the pretty little speckled egg came from. This sweet nest is filled with green & brown preserved moss. Ava’s bird is made from 4 separate pieces. Her tail is attached with a vintage blue button. Her wings are attached with heavy duty button thread. Lots of hand-painted details on this bluebird!

Ava’s hair is black, 100% mohair. It has been lightly glued then carefully needle-felted to her head. Ava’s hair is styled into low, messy buns.

This little girl is available tonight beginning at 9:15. She will end Feb. 3 at 9:15 PM. As always Click here to view or Bid.
