Violetta – A Folk Art Butterfly in Grey & Lavender

Look who I found fluttering around my flower bed! She must have been drawn to the sweet hollyhock hanging around my house this week.

This little girl is Violetta. She’s a wee over 14 inches from head to toe with a wingspan of 12 inches. She has been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. Her base is rag-stuffed & bean filled so that she stands nicely. Violetta has been made in the style of a stump doll as she has no legs. She’s been hand-painted & sanded a couple of times, top to bottom, giving her such a lovely, aged patina. She’s been sealed so that she may be lightly dusted after display.

Violetta’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand. Her hands have been needle-sculpted as well. She sports brown painted gloves.

This little girl is a knockout in her fancy dress! Violetta’s blouse has been constructed from white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline & back. It also features vintage, grey, mother of pearl buttons. Violetta’s skirt is constructed of a shimmery, steel grey fashion fabric that really holds those folds! The hem has been hand-stitched in a contrasting dark brown thread.

Violetta’s wings have been made of muslin & cotton batting. They’re machine quilted, hand-painted in shades of violet, dusty lavender & grey & black & white. They’ve been stained & sanded & are attached to Violetta with a vintage button. These wings are 12 inches wide.

Her hair is 100% black mohair. It has been applied with light glue for extra security & needle-felting. It has been ‘parted’ & styled into a side pony.

A Primitive Pink Hollyhock

An old-fashioned flower garden just isn’t complete without beautiful, towering hollyhocks. This little girl will allow you to have a little old fashioned garden indoors, all year long!

Meet Holly. Holly is a little over 15 inches from head to toe. She is made in the style of a stump doll & stands on her own. Holly has been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. Her base is rag-stuffed & bean filled allowing her balance nicely. Holly has been hand-painted & sanded a couple of times, giving her such a lovely, aged patina. She’s been sealed so that she may be lightly dusted after display.

Holly’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand, giving her a cute little pout. Her leafy hands have been needle-sculpted as well.

Holly’s blouse is made of white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline and back. It is finished off with a glass buttons at the neckline. Holly’s skirt consists of two 100% cotton prints. The hem features delicate hand-stitches.

Each of Holly’s petals were sewn separately & attached securely by hand with tiny stitches. Because each petal was sewn & turned, the edges are finished.

Just right! — A Primitive Goldilocks & The Three Bears

(Goldilocks & The Three Bears was created for a very special Prim & Whimsy Girl Fairy Tale themed Challenge. I bet you know who these folks are! Little Goldilocks is 14.5 inches tall from head to toe. Her little bears are a wee 4-4.5″ tall. Goldilocks has been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. She has been hand-painted & sanded a couple of times, giving her such a lovely, aged patina. She’s been sealed with a combination of glossy & matte sealers so that she may be lightly dusted after display. Goldi has an embroidery thread loop sewn to her back making her suitable for hanging. She can also be displayed sitting when propped up. She will not sit on her own. Her knees are sewn through making her a great shelf-sitter.

Goldi’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand. Her hands have been needle-sculpted as well. She sports brown painted gloves. She also sports painted brown boots with tan socks & light tan laces.

Goldi’s blouse is made of white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline and back. It is finished off with grey, vintage mother of pearl buttons at the neckline. Goldi’s skirt is a super cute 100% cotton print in shades of blue, red, green & brown. Her hem is hand-stitched with contrasting chocolate thread.

Sometimes you just want to take your friends everywhere you go! Goldi totes hers around in this super chic, brown, 100% wool purse. It features funky, folky stitches in blue & red embroidery thread & mismatched buttons. The bears are 4-4.5″ tall. They are removable although Goldi’s purse is not.

Goldilocks’ hair is 100% honey blonde mohair. It has been applied with light glue for extra security & needle-felting. It has been ‘parted’,pulled to the side & left loose.

Aria, a Primitive Glittery Angel with an Urge to Twirl.

Meet lovely Aria. This sweet angel is a little over 14 inches from head to toe with a wingspan of 9.5 inches. She has been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. Aria has been hand-painted & sanded a couple of times, giving her such a lovely, aged patina. She’s been sealed with a combination of glossy & matte sealers so that she may be lightly dusted after display. Aria has an embroidery thread loop sewn to her back making her suitable for hanging. I just love this little girl’s clothing! All that red makes me think of summer & the ripe strawberries, tomatoes, watermelons & cherries that will be coming our way! Aria’s blouse is made of white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline and back. It is finished off with a vintage button at the neckline. Aria’s skirt consists of three super delicious 100% cotton prints in coordinating reds. Each hem is hand-stitched with red thread. (I think she’s ready to go dancing in this flouncy little skirt!)

Aria’s wings have been made of muslin & cotton batting. They’re machine quilted, hand-painted & aged. I’ve applied vintage-style glass glitter to both sides of the wings. They’re attached to Aria with the prettiest vintage, mother of pearl button. These wings are 9.5 inches wide.

Aria’s hair is 100% black mohair. It has been applied with light glue for extra security & needle-felting. It has been ‘parted’ & styled into a messy bun in the back.

Through the Woods

Meet Little Red Riding Hood & her tiny sidekick. Little Red is 6.5 inches, from head to toe. She is permanently attached to this box which is meant to be displayed on the wall. Little Red’s tiny companion is just over 2? tall. He can be removed from Red’s purse, although he finds this spot quite comfy. Red & her Wolf have been made of muslin & fiberfill. They’ve been painted & sanded a couple of times, giving them lovely, aged patinas. She’s been sealed with a combination of glossy & matte sealers. This little wolf has been sealed with a matte varnish with added UV filter.

Little Red’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand giving her a perfect little pout just like my larger dollies. Her hands have been needle-sculpted as well. She sports tan painted gloves. She also sports painted brown boots with tan socks & red, detailed laces.

Little Red’s blouse is made of white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline and back. It is finished off with a vintage button. Red’s skirt & hooded cape have been made from two 100% cotton prints. Red’s skirt features hand-stitching along the hem. Red’s tiny purse has been constructed from brown wool. It has a braided, embroidery thread strap which is not removable.

Red’s little home is full of charm! It is 4? deep & has a diameter of 7.5?. I have decoupaged the box with various vintage papers, including illustrations of various woodland creatures & types of leaves. All vintage papers were treated with acid neutralizer to prevent deterioration over time. A tiny forest has been painted inside Red’s box. “Little Red” has been hand-painted on the lid surrounded by hand-painted lace. The inside of the lid features various collage pieces, significant to the story of Little Red Riding Hood. A hemp string is attached to the back of the box, so that this piece may be displayed on the wall. The lid can be placed on the box or displayed alongside Alice, although no hanger is attached to the lid.

Little Red’s hair is 100% light brown mohair. It has been applied with light glue for extra security & needle-felting. Little Red Riding Hood is available on eBay. She will end May 10th at 9:15 PM EST. Click here to view or bid.

How ’bout some wearable art?!?

Alice, Rabbit, Little Red, Wolfie

Who says art has to stay on a wall or on a shelf? I’m so excited to be able to offer you my very first pieces of wearable art. (Available here!) If you’re an Alice in Wonderland, Little Red or Pug fan, I’m sure you’d be super happy to wear these little guys on your lapel, purse or backpack.

Each brooch is an OOAK piece of artwork. They have been made of muslin, stuffed with fiberfill & hand-painted, sanded & stained for a lovely, aged patina. Each brooch has been sealed with matte sealer with UV filter to ensure longevity. A brooch back has been carefully sewn to each piece with embroidery thread. The brooch back has been sewn securely, but please be careful when attaching & removing these pins as they are delicate.

Each brooch comes with its very own keepsake box which has been primed, painted, crackled & aged. They’ll be a lovely resting place for your wearable dolls!

I’ve initialed each brooch & will sign & date the bottom of each keepsake box as well.

Each brooch is being sold separately.

Margot, A Primitive Fluttery Girl

Imagine discovering this little girl flitting about your flowerbeds!

Meet Margot. She’s been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. She measures 14.5 inches tall from head to toe with a wingspan of 11.5 inches. Margot is best displayed hanging as she has an embroidery thread loop attached to her back. Her pretty blue wings which have been machine-quilted & hand-painted, are too large to allow her to sit properly. Margot has been painted & sanded a couple of times, giving her a lovely, aged patina. She’s been sealed with a combination of glossy & matte sealers so that she may be lightly dusted after display. Margot’s wings are attached to her back with a vintage button & embroidery thread.

Margot’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand giving her a perfect little pout. Her hands have been needle-sculpted as well. She sports painted taupe gloves. She also sports painted brown boots with taupe socks & detailed tan laces.

Margot’s blouse is made of white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline and back. It is finished off with a grey, vintage, mother of pearl button. Margot’s apron skirt is made from two cute 100% cotton prints. The hemlines feature hand-stitching in contrasting black thread & dainty mother of pearl buttons.

Margot’s hair is 100% black wool. It has been parted & applied with light glue & needle-felting. It is styled loosely to the side & tied with embroidery thread.

Alice in Wonderland

Meet Alice. I’m sure you’ve met many variations of this little one before. But I am proud to offer you this week my very first Alice in Wonderland. Wee Alice is 6.5 inches, from head to toe. She is permanently attached to this box which is meant to be displayed on the wall. Alice has been made of muslin & fiberfill. She’s been painted & sanded a couple of times, giving her a lovely, aged patina. She’s been sealed with a combination of glossy & matte sealers.

Alice’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand giving her a perfect little pout just like my larger dollies. Her hands have been needle-sculpted as well. She sports tan painted gloves. She also sports painted brown boots with tan locks & blue laces.

Alice’s blouse is made of white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline and back. It is finished off with tiny, black seed beads. Alice’s apron is also made from muslin. Alice’s skirt is made from two 100% cotton prints & features hand-stitching along the hem in chocolate thread. Alice’s purse has been made from muslin & has been hand-painted, sanded & aged. Braided embroidery thread is used as the strap. It is not removable.

Alice’s tiny companion is just over 2.5″ tall. He can be removed from his Alice’s purse, although he finds this spot quite comfy.

Alice’s little home is full of charm! It is 4″ deep & has a diameter of 7.5″. I have decoupaged her box with various vintage papers. The outside of the box is painted light blue & has been crackled & aged. “Alice” has been hand-painted on the lid surrounded by hand-painted lace.

Ollie, a Childlike Pug w/ Balloon & Teddy Bear

This little chickadee is Ollie. Ollie 12″ tall from ear to toe (14″ including balloon). She has been made of muslin, stuffed with fiberfill & hand-painted & sanded many times giving her such a lovely, aged patina. Ollie has been sealed with a combination of sealers so that she can be lightly dusted after display. Her lower torso is weighted allowing her to sit nicely. Ollie’s left arm is button jointed, allowing her to hold her sweet 3″ teddy. Her neck is supported with wire armature.

Ollie has been painted with a variety of media. Her muzzle has been attached separately giving her the perfect pug profile. Her ears have been attached separately as well. Ollie’s tiny paws have been hand-sculpted by hand. She wears brown painted gloves & brown boots with tan socks & light tan laces.

Ollie’s apron dress has been constructed from the cutest 100% cotton print in shades of red, cream & pink. Her blouse has been constructed from white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves, stitching along the back & neckline and tiny buttons down the front. Ollie’s hem features hand-stitching.

Little girls love balloons & this little one is no exception. Ollie’s balloon has been made from muslin, painted, sanded & aged. It is attached to rusty wire which was then wrapped around Ollie’s arm. The wire extends adding gentle support & allowing Ollie’s balloon to remain upright.

Ollie’s little buddy is constructed of muslin. He has been hand-painted, sanded & aged & sealed.
