Chi Chi, a feisty folk art Chihuahua.

ChiChiHeadToToe2

This little dumpling is Chi Chi. I’ve received several requests for different dog breeds & decided to see if I could make a Chihuahua. Well, Chi Chi is definitely a cutie & is absolutely guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Chi Chi is 13″ tall from the tip of her ears to the bottom of her feet. She’s has been made of muslin, stuffed with fiberfill & painted & sanded many times, giving her a lovely, aged patina. She has been sealed with a combination of matte & glossy sealers so that she may be beautifully preserved. Though she’s been sealed with matte sealer, she still has a slight sheen. Chi Chi’s torso has been rag-stuffed & bean filled allowing her to sit nicely. Her arms are wired & may be gently posed.

ChiChiFace ChiChiProfile ChiChiHand

Chi Chi’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her large ears have been attached separately & are hand-stitched in place.

Chi Chi’s fingers have been needle-sculpted by hand. She sports tan gloves. She also sports pretty brown boots complete with tan socks & red hand-painted laces.

ChiChiBoots ChiChiBodice ChiChiFabric

I am in love with this fabric! The cream & red print has such a vintage feel & is perfect for year round display. Chi Chi’s blouse has been made of white muslin & features hand-gathered sleeves & a vintage button at the neckline. All exposed hems have been hand-stitched. There is also hand-stitching at the neckline of Chi Chi’s blouse & along the back seam. Chi Chi’s blouse has been treated to a coffee/lavender bud bath for a slightly aged appearance. It was then hand washed & pressed.

ChiChiCandyCanes

Chi Chi gently holds this little candy cane bundle, perfect for Christmastime. Sprigs of sweet annie is nestled between the canes & the bundle is wired then tied together with rusty jingle bells & chocolate ribbon. This candy cane bundle measures 4″ tall & is not attached so that Chi Chi can be displayed even after the holidays.

Primitive Pug Ornies

These little guys are on eBay this week.

Two pug ornies! They’re such a sweet couple. They quarrel occasionally, but what couple doesn’t?

Tag, I’m it.

I was recently Tagged by the extraordinarily talented La Donna Welter. If you haven’t visited her blog & viewed her artwork, you MUST. It’s gorgeous. You’ll get all swoony & I swear, you’ll want to buy it all!

Here are the tagging rules I am supposed to adhere to:

Link to the person who tagged you.
Mention the rules.
Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about yourself.
Tag six other bloggers by linking to them.
Go to each person’s blog and leave a comment that lets them know they have been tagged.

Okay, so here are my six boring unspectacular details:

1. I eat maraschino cherries straight from the jar, in large quantities. I would sometimes love to stuff my cheeks full of them, I love them that much.

2. When I was little I used to prance around in a set of heavy red drapes, pretending it was a ball gown. I still love & want fancy dresses, even though I have absolutely nowhere to wear one.

3. I have a habit of bursting out in song at random moments. It’s not my fault. My whole family does it.

4. I like to can food in the summer. It definitely tastes better! And it feels good too.

5. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got…was from my stepmother. One time when I was particularly down, she said “Sometimes you just have to say, ah & move on.” Sometimes when I’m feeling all loserish (I don’t think that’s really a word), or fretting over something that cannot be changed or that I have no control over, I have to remind myself to say ‘Ah’, shrug my shoulders & move on. And it really does help! You should try it!

6. I love to fish. It’s relaxing. I fished at the ocean for the first time this past summer.

Since I never know if someone’s been tagged recently, or if their blog is tag-free zone, I always just use this as an opportunity to highlight blogs that are fabulous in my opinion. If you want to do the tag, you can, but don’t feel any pressure to do so. Thanks!

Frosty Father Christmas – with Primitive Goodies.

FCHeadToToe

This familiar fellow is quite the charmer. Meet Father Christmas. He is my original design & is guaranteed one of a kind art! He measures 17″ tall from the tip of his wreath to this base. Father Christmas has been made of muslin, stuffed with fiberfill & painted & sanded many times, giving him a lovely, aged patina. He has been sealed with matte sealant so that he may be beautifully preserved. His base is rag-stuffed & bean-filled so that he stands steadily. His neck is supported with wire armature.

Father Christmas’s face has been painted with a variety of media. His nose and bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand.

His fingers have been needle-sculpted. Father Christmas sports brown painted gloves. He also wears a festive wreath around his head, made from dried sweet annie & rusty wire. The sweet annie has been sealed to prevent it from shedding. I’ve also treated both sides of the sweet annie wreath with spray adhesive & vintage style glass glitter. This gives the wreath a frosty appearance & is absolutely lovely in dim light. Father Christmas’s wardrobe consists of a gown made of osnaburg, featuring vintage mother of pearl buttons & a long, brown, velveteen coat trimmed with faux fur. All exposed hems feature hand-stitching. And all trim has been hand-applied.

Father Christmas carries a bag full of goodies! His burlap bag ties with a sheer chocolate ribbon. Its grosgrain strap is attached to the bag with safety pins & can be removed should you wish to display him without his bag or display it in a different manner. Each item has been made of muslin, stuffed with fiberfill, hand-painted, sanded, aged & sanded again. The stick horse also features a needle felted wool mane & painted wooden dowel. A touch of glue was used to secure the dowel inside the horse’s head. The stick horse measures 6.5″ tall. Teddy & tree are 5″ long.

Father Christmas’s hair, beard & mustache are white 100% mohair. I’ve applied a touch of glue for added security & then needle felted it in place.
