Those who know me, know that I love antiques. There’s just something about worn furniture, chipped paint, a rusty patina or wood conditioned by hands, use & time that cuts to the very heart of me.
One week ago my husband & I officially purchased our most expensive & largest antique yet. It’s a 94 year old farmhouse.
Above is the smokehouse/root cellar. (It will be our potting shed & gardening center.) It’s full of treasures. Many of which I can’t see from the doorway. I can’t wait to start sorting through that charming little addition. I can so easily imagine a sink underneath the window, perfect for washing veggies & fruits from the garden before they’re brought through the door.
The barn came with the property & we own 2 acres behind it, which meet the Licking River. Fishing from my own backyard? That’s my idea of heaven.
We’re excited! We’ve ripped up carpet in a few rooms & have painted walls in much of the house. Some work will just have to wait until we’re actually in the home. And bigger projects will definitely have to wait until we can afford them.
Although we’re tired, we don’t mind the work. Every stroke of the broom or paint brush, every cobweb that’s knocked down, every ounce of sweat we’ve put into this house this week, is improving our home. And it’s nice to be able to call it Our Home. I know that we’ll love this house. And I think this house will love us as well.

Hi Rebecca!
Just wanted to give you a huge Congrats on your new home! She is a beautiful old gal! Surely just the kind of place you’ll be thrilled to scrape down to aged perfection and add your own personality to.
My hubby and I have been working on our little old lady for 28 years…it never ends. But we don’t really want it too. The old ones require special attention and a little bit more heart and soul. As I’ve admired your art for a while I’m sure you have what it takes! She will love you back!!
So excited for you! Enjoy!!

Hi! Rebecca,
I am so happy for you and David for finding a home sweet home. The setting looks beautiful and the house looks amazing. A year ago, I purchased a doll from you on e-bay and you began an adventure for me. I discovered Gritty Jane on your links and took a Cloth and Clay doll class from her. It has been up-hill ever since and I have taken a few other doll making related classes. And it has all been because of your wonderful links that you have on your side bar. I blogged almost daily on NieNie as Stephanie and her husband recovered from their plane crash last August. It has been a blessing to me that you have put me in touch with such warm, wonderful people in blog land. God bless you, sweetie!
Hugs, and cheers,
Teresa
Hi! I stumbled upon your site and have to say I just love your work! Absolutely beautiful! Also, your new home looks so lovely! I love Appalachia, too and am going to be doing a blog all about my year volunteering in Southeast KY.
Oh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan….that is amazing! what a dream house! Many congrats on such a beautiful new (old) home in such a beautiful place!
Thank you so much for such a sweet comment, Teresa! I definitely remember you, your dolly & that you shared your sons beautiful artwork with me! I still have the card you sent as it was so touching & sweet. How fantastic that you discovered those wonderful folks through my list of links. All of those artists are amazing & inspiring! Congratulations on beginning your doll making! I hope that you just love it!
Stephanie & Christian’s story is & was so touching. I still read NieNie Dialogues & C Jane & I still find myself moved to tears–not always sorrowful tears, though. Those women move my soul.
Thanks for stopping by Teresa! I’m sorry for such a late reply. But I do appreciate you!
