The Hummingbird Keeper

This little girl is Ida. Ida’s a little over 14 inches from head to toe & is 12 inches from hummingbird tail to hummingbird tail. She has been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. She’s been hand-painted & sanded a couple of times, giving her such a lovely, aged patina. Ida has been made in the style of a stump doll. Her lower torso has been rag-stuffed & bean-filled so that she stands nicely on her own. She’s been sealed so that she may be lightly dusted after display. Her arms are lightly wired.

Ida’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand. Her hands have been needle-sculpted as well. Ida sports brown painted gloves.

Ida’s blouse is made of white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline and back. It is finished off with a green, vintage button at the neckline. It has been tea-stained & washed, dried & pressed for an aged appearance. Ida’s skirt consists of two cute 100% cotton prints in shades of brown. The hem is hand-stitched with chocolate thread.

Ida’s little feathered friends have been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. They’re constructed of 4 separate pieces. Their wings have been hand-quilted. Each hummingbird has been hand-painted, sanded, aged & sealed with a matte varnish with added UV filter. They’re a little over 4 inches long from tail to nose. They’re attached to Ida’s arms with rusty wire.

Ida’s hair is 100% brown mohair. It has been applied with light glue for extra security & needle-felting. It has been ‘parted’ & left loose.

A Primitive Mermaid in Shades of Lavender & Grey

Meet lovely Marilla. She’s a little over 13 inches from head to tail. She’s been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. She’s been hand-painted & sanded, top to bottom, a couple of times, giving her such a lovely, aged patina. Marilla has been sealed with matte sealer so that she may be lightly dusted after display. She has an embroidery thread loop sewn to her back making her suitable for hanging.

Marilla’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand. Her hands have been needle-sculpted as well. She sports brown painted gloves.

Marilla’s tail has been painted in lovely, muted shades of lavender & grey.

Marilla’s hair is 100% honey blonde mohair. It has been applied with light glue for extra security & needle-felting. It has been ‘parted’ & pulled loosely to the sides.

Violetta – A Folk Art Butterfly in Grey & Lavender

Look who I found fluttering around my flower bed! She must have been drawn to the sweet hollyhock hanging around my house this week.

This little girl is Violetta. She’s a wee over 14 inches from head to toe with a wingspan of 12 inches. She has been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. Her base is rag-stuffed & bean filled so that she stands nicely. Violetta has been made in the style of a stump doll as she has no legs. She’s been hand-painted & sanded a couple of times, top to bottom, giving her such a lovely, aged patina. She’s been sealed so that she may be lightly dusted after display.

Violetta’s face has been painted with a variety of media. Her nose & bottom lip have been needle-sculpted by hand. Her hands have been needle-sculpted as well. She sports brown painted gloves.

This little girl is a knockout in her fancy dress! Violetta’s blouse has been constructed from white muslin. It features hand-gathered sleeves & hand-stitching around the neckline & back. It also features vintage, grey, mother of pearl buttons. Violetta’s skirt is constructed of a shimmery, steel grey fashion fabric that really holds those folds! The hem has been hand-stitched in a contrasting dark brown thread.

Violetta’s wings have been made of muslin & cotton batting. They’re machine quilted, hand-painted in shades of violet, dusty lavender & grey & black & white. They’ve been stained & sanded & are attached to Violetta with a vintage button. These wings are 12 inches wide.

Her hair is 100% black mohair. It has been applied with light glue for extra security & needle-felting. It has been ‘parted’ & styled into a side pony.
