Cecile & her Pink Rag Bunny.

CecileTorsoThis charming little lady is Cecile. And Cecile takes her favorite doll EVERYWHERE. Like all my dolls, Cecile & her sweet rabbit are my original designs and are guaranteed one of a kind art! She is 27" tall while her rabbit is 17" tall. Cecile has been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. Her lower torso has been rag-stuffed & bean filled in order to weight her little bottom. Cecile has been hand-painted & sanded, top to bottom many, many times. She has been treated to a series of paint washes, giving her a deeply aged patina. Cecile’s arms are lightly wired allowing her to hold her rabbit (rabbit does not sit on her own). Rabbit has been made from a super supple, Robert Kaufman, 100% cotton fabric. Her ears are lined with a sweet, 100% cotton, pink polka dot print.

Cecile’s sweet face has been needle-sculpted by hand, (nose & lip), and hand-painted. Her face is heavily detailed! She has been painted with premium acrylic paints and shaded & highlighted heavily with oil pastels. Her rag doll’s muzzle has been made from osnaburg & stitched on with invisible thread. Her pink little nose has been drawn with artist pencils. Her whiskers are heavy duty thread. Cecile has been sealed top to bottom with a combination of glossy & matte acrylic sealer so that she may be lightly dusted after display & kept a lifetime.

Both doll’s fingers (paws) have been needle-sculpted by hand. Cecile sports dark taupe painted gloves with painted white ruffles lining the edge. She also sports painted brown boots, with tons of painted straps & buttons & painted dark taupe socks with hand-painted white ruffles lining the edge.

CecileFace Cecile’s apron skirt is made from a celery green 100% cotton damask print from Moda featuring white bunnies!!! Her blouse is made from white muslin & features hand-gathered sleeves & a vintage green button at the collar. Rabbit’s dress is made from a 100% cotton pink striped print. These dresses feature tons of hand-stitching. All visible hems have been hand-stitched (dress & sleeves). There is decorative hand-stitching around her collar. All clothing has been treated to a coffee and lavender bud bath for a slightly aged appearance. All pieces have been hand-washed & pressed with linen water.

Rabbit’s dress is finished in the back with a vintage, white button. Brown buttons grace the front of both dresses.

Cecile’s hair is 100% ‘honey blonde’ mohair. It was lightly glued then carefully needle-felted to her head. I’ve styled Cecile’s hair into loose braids, then fashioned them into a low side pony.

Happy Valentine’s Day, You Sweet Hearts

Two of my favorite poems by e.e. cummings:

somewhere i have never traveled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near
your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skillfully, mysteriously) her first rose
or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the colour of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing
(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

& the poem read at my wedding, by my sweet friend, billie

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate,my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Lynette and primitive Easter Lamb.

LynetteTorso2 This sweet little gal with her very own pet is Lynette. Like all my dolls, Lynette & her lamb are my original designs and are guaranteed one of a kind art! She is 30" tall. Her sweet pet is 9.5" tall & 12.5 inches wide. Both dolls have been made of muslin & stuffed with fiberfill. Lynette’s lower torso has been rag-stuffed & bean filled in order to weight her little bottom. Both dolls have been hand-painted & sanded, top to bottom many, many times. Lynette has been treated to a series of paint washes, giving her a deeply aged patina. Her arms are lightly wired.

Lynette’s sweet face has been needle-sculpted by hand, (nose & lip), and hand-painted. Her face is heavily detailed! She has been painted with premium acrylic paints and shaded & highlighted heavily with oil pastels, artist pencils & acrylic paint. She has needle sculpted fingers. Her lamb has been painted & highly detailed with the same media as Lynette. Both dolls have been sealed top to bottom with a combination of glossy & matte acrylic sealer.

LynetteLambFull

This little lamb was constructed from eight separate pieces. All legs have been attached with several strands of heavy duty button thread. They can be slightly posed. I’ve needle-felted this lamb entirely with raw, clean wool. (Quite a time-consuming process!!) She is as pretty on all sides as she is from the front. She can sit on her own as well relax in Lynette’s lap.

Lynette sports taupe painted socks & painted boots modeled after a pair of antique baby shoes. They are highly detailed & sanded in just the right places, adding to their aged appearance.

LynetteShoes2 LynetteStitching LynetteFabric

Lynette’s apron dress is made of a 100% cotton, pink polka dot print & a super cute 100% cotton alphabet print by Moda. (I’m in LOVE with both of these fabrics!) Her blouse has been made of white muslin & features sleeves, hand-gathered at the elbow, & a vintage mother of pearl button at the collar (which is edged in pretty, pink stitches). Lynette’s skirt & blouse feature tons of hand-stitching! All visible hems have been hand-stitched (skirt, sleeves, collar). The back of Lynette’s blouse also features hand-stitching. Her clothing has been treated to a coffee and lavender bud bath for an aged appearance. All pieces have been hand-washed & pressed with linen water.

LynetteBack LynetteClose LynetteHairClose

Lynette’s hair is 100% ‘carrot’ mohair. It is not nearly as stark as shown in these photographs. The color is truer to the picture on the far right, above. It was lightly glued then carefully needle-felted to her head. I’ve styled Lynette’s hair into low messy buns.

Lynette & her little lamb (in my mind, her name is Aggie!) are available on eBay. They will end Sunday night Feb. 17th at 9:15 EST. Here’s the clicker if you want to view or bid!
