The Devil Made Us Do It

I’d like to personally invite you to attend the opening reception of, The Devil Made Us Do It, Depictions of Satan in Kentucky Folk Art. Curated by the Kentucky Folk Art Center, this exhibit examines how the character of the devil has been portrayed by generations of self-taught artists from Kentucky. My own carefully made piece, “The Root of All”, will be included in the exhibition. I encourage you to come look at the piece for yourself. Photos really do not capture the detail of my imaginings of Satan.

The opening reception will be on Thursday, September 29th from 5:30-7:30 P.M. If you can’t attend the reception, “The Devil Made Us Do It”,  will be up through Monday, November 28, 2016. For more information, visit the Event page on Facebook,  or call the Kentucky Folk Art Center at 606.783.2204.

Come We to the Summer

Earlier this year I worked on a piece especially for the Kentucky Folk Art Center’s summer exhibition entitled Come We to the Summer.  I was honored to have my piece selected for the exhibit. The show is scheduled to be displayed until August 29th. So there is still time to view this wonderful exhibit if you have a chance. I have a few pictures from the opening reception, including some photos of my humbled little gal, Mariposa, who was just happy to spread her wings amongst such fantastic artwork.

(This was my first gallery exhibition in Kentucky and the very first opening reception I’ve been able to attend. Last year I was honored to have work included in a group exhibit at Hawk Galleries in Columbus, Ohio featuring Minnie Adkins and many of the area Kentucky folk artists.)

I wish I had taken more photos of the fantastic evening and of all the great art work that was presented in this show, including the Best in Show winning piece by Jo Ann Butts. Unfortunately, this was one of the evenings I forgot my camera but made due with the iPhone. The show is still up for a few more weeks if you would like to swing by and see it.

A Day in the Country 2015 (In Pics)

The first weekend in June just might be my favorite time of the year. There is for sure a lot to see & hear if you happen to be in Morehead, Ky. I could tell you how amazing, dynamic and interesting all the art was, how nice it was to see artists explaining their work to enthusiasts and to see collectors acquiring pieces by their favorites, but I think I’ll just let the photos speak for me. If you’re interested in what you see, make plans to attend next year’s Day in the Country at Morehead Conference Center in Morehead, Ky. You won’t be disappointed! (Visit the links below the photo gallery for more information about participating artists.)
